About
The photographer
I'm Jess. I live in Margate and I photograph weddings.
That is the short version. The longer one involves a fine art degree I only half finished, five years assisting other photographers, and a moment at a friend's wedding where I realised I was having more fun behind the camera than anyone else was having at the bar.
I moved to Margate in 2019 because the light here is something else. The sea, the sky, the way the sun hits Dreamland at 7pm in June. It is a good place to live if you spend your life looking at light.
My approach is documentary. I do not carry a shot list. I do not arrange people into groups unless they ask. I watch, I wait, and I photograph what actually happens. The laugh your dad tries to hold back. Your best friend ugly-crying during the vows. The quiet five minutes you steal together between the ceremony and the reception.
Those are the photos you will want in ten years. Not the one where everyone is stood in a line squinting at the sun.
I shoot on mirrorless cameras, mostly with natural light. I edit with a warm, natural palette because I want your photos to look like your day felt, not like an Instagram filter. Turnaround is usually four to six weeks. I know that feels like ages, but each image gets individual attention.
When I am not shooting weddings, I am probably walking along the seafront with a coffee, pretending that counts as exercise.
